Indoor options for everyone
Haven Gallery
Haven Gallery describes itself as a multi-sensory playground of art, sound and expression inside a converted former Woolworths building. Lie back under atmospheric films in a 360-degree cinema dome, touch walls to make art, stand in a projection-mapped piece, and wander a laneway streetscape. The listing says it suits families, couples and art lovers. It gives no duration or address on GetYourGuide, so check your ticket.

Day Zero’s arena is fully indoor and air-conditioned: 476 square metres themed as an abandoned military camp, with fog effects and a soundtrack. A one-hour session is three ten-minute games, with a blaster, vest and digital leaderboard. The listing says it is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, from age 5. No bare feet or climbing.
Make something: the alcohol-ink workshop
Local artist Katie Grubb runs an alcohol-ink flow-art workshop. The listing describes the core workshop as two and a half hours, with three hours set aside, though its duration field says two. You need no art experience, all materials are supplied, and everyone takes their piece home. It can come to your accommodation anywhere in the Byron Bay region, or you can go to the artist’s studio at South Golden Beach.
Food and drinks are not included, and travel outside the Byron region may cost extra. Wear clothes that can get dirty. Not suitable for children under 6.

Behind the Barrel’s six-hour day visits two breweries and two distilleries, with about 15 to 20 tastings, lunch and pickup. Over 18 only, with ID. Brewery tours compared.
Tours that run in the rain anyway
The sea kayak tour on GetYourGuide (opens in a new tab) says it goes ahead in the rain, and that opting out for rain does not earn a refund. Soul Connect’s half-day waterfall tour runs in all weather. You will be wet either way.
Boat trips are different: the whale and snorkel operators reschedule or refund when sea conditions are unsuitable. Each operator’s weather terms are set out in one place.

Questions people ask
What can kids do in Byron when it rains?
Laser tag from 5, the art workshop from 6, and Haven Gallery for families. Byron with kids has more by age.
Will my whale or snorkel tour be cancelled?
Possibly, if the sea is rough; rain alone may not stop it. Check your confirmation and messages on the day.
Is a rainy day good for anything outdoors?
NPWS notes that Minyon Falls may not flow strongly in a dry spell, so a wet week is a good time to see it. See waterfalls near Byron.
