The time difference
Brisbane is in Queensland, which does not use daylight saving. From the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, Byron, in NSW, is an hour ahead, so 9:30 am in Brisbane is 10:30 am in Byron. The time difference explained.
A small-group day trip
Adventure Day Trips runs a nine-and-a-half-hour day for up to four guests, from about 9:30 am to 6 pm, with flexible pickup and drop-off in an air-conditioned vehicle. Bottled water and snacks are included; lunch and other personal spending are not, so bring cash or a card. There is no wheelchair access.
The described stops are a coffee at The Farm, Cape Byron Lighthouse and a walk around it, the shops and cafes of Fletcher Street, and Main Beach. The tour title also names Burleigh Heads, on the Gold Coast, though the description we read stopped before reaching it.
Read the itinerary carefully before booking: the listing’s description begins by calling it a Sunshine Coast hinterland tour, which is in the other direction from Brisbane. That looks like an error, but confirm the stops with the operator.

Why staying a night works better
The tours that make Byron worth the trip mostly start in Byron in the morning: the sea kayak on Main Beach, the whale and snorkel boats from The Pass, the surf lessons on Fletcher Street. Most check in 15 to 30 minutes early. From Brisbane that means a very early start, and the time difference makes it an hour earlier still in summer. A night in Byron lets you book those at a normal hour.
With one night, book a morning ocean tour on the first day and the six-hour hinterland day on GetYourGuide (opens in a new tab) on the second. Our three-day itinerary has a longer version.
Getting there without a tour
Visit NSW lists airport transfers from Brisbane Airport to Byron among the shuttle options, alongside Ballina and the Gold Coast. Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is under 30 minutes’ drive from Byron, if you are flying in.
